I have another question. In your letter(s) do you say something like please don't send me a rubber stamped autograph, just send my picture back? I know that can sound rude, but why have a fake rubber stamped auto. what good in collecting that??? How do you try to insure yourself that you will get a hand signed auto? I don't care for a secretary signature, or rubber stamped, or even personalized...unless I have to have a personalized. I think I am just interested in the auto on the photo. My name on the photo, takes away the clean look and feel from it. I am just starting out, so what do you think?

If you want an authentic autograph you can search for the celeb you are hoping to write to and see if they send out authentics

This is what i usually say in my letters. In my first paragraph i introduce my name, town and state, and what grade i am in what school. i just tell them some basic interests of mine. In my second paragraph, i talk about the person I'm writing to. Say I'm writing to Daniel Radcliffe, i would say something like "I love the personality you created in Harry Potter, and can't wait to see the Half Blood Prince!" and just say more about him that i like. In my third and final paragraph, I say something like "I know that you're super busy lately, but it would mean a lot of you could sign these photos i included in the letter. Thanks."

If you include a photo in your letter with a SASE, you have a better chance of getting it signed! Sorry for the sorta long response xD. Just trying to help (:

I wouldn't say "don't send me a fake autograh" or something like that because some celebs only send out stamps, pp's, ap's, secs. I'd look on here to see what the success rate of getting an authentic is. I've said this before but it's all trial and error. And sometimes you may not get your photo back at all and just get the photo the celeb sends out. I sent three photos to Freddie Highmore and he kept all three and sent me back one of his own, for example.

Here's how I usually write a closing paragraph asking for an autograph. Something along the lines of:

"Thank you so much for reading my letter! I was hoping if it's not too much trouble, that I could get your autograph. It would truly mean a lot. Thanks again!"

I'm the type of collector, however, that likes personalizations and inscriptions so I can't help you with how to avoid that. Also, you really have no control over whether you're going to get an authentic or not. Another example is Mary Tyler Moore, she sends out both PP's and authentics. I was lucky and got an authentic but some people just get her PP. My friend even got a secretarial personalization on the PP. So it's really luck of the draw.

My philosophy is, if you send a photo/item to be signed be prepared to never get it back or get it back ruined (i.e. secs, stamp, ap). If it's something you absolutely cannot live without, don't send it. I print my own photos and send them, that way if I don't get them back - no harm no foul.

Sometimes a celeb will only sign if you include a photo (i.e. Christian Bale) and sometimes they will only send out their own photo. I heard that Eric Bana sends back a stamped autograph even if you send your own photos. So...that could happen with other celebs.

I'd just say check the celeb's success history on this database and see what people are getting back.

So, don't kill me here then. Why collect a "fake" rubber stamped autograph? You go through the trouble of either printing your own pictures or paying for them. Just to get a fake stamp??? I don't mean to burst anyone's bubble...but why do it? Why go through the hassle, trouble, and buying photos? It seems that people on here look for photos online and print what they want, because buying photos doesn't seem recommended on here. I am new too, this is the only forum about autos that I search.

Is it just me??? I find fake autos to be clutter then. NO? (I am not trying to be funny or a jokester or be a problem either, just honestly curious)

If someone always sends preprints, APs, stamps or whatever, then they most likely will not make an exception, (unless you are very lucky, as annie985 mentioned she was earlier) but it could be considered as very rude to say to them that if they aren't going to send you an authentic, don't bother. Whether or not you like PPs, APs, stamps and the rest, it would still be a little impolite to say that. It's best just to do your research about who sends authentics before sending. {thumb2}

I wouldn't say that, so many people do sign authentically. I you just check before hand to avoid dissapointment. There must be plenty of people you admire who don't send PP/AP/Stamps/Sec or whatever? :razz:
