Please Help - Autograph is smudging

Hello everyone!
I got this autograph at a local convention 6 months ago. He used a metallic marker because it was the only thing that would show up on the picture I picked. It’s slowly smudging very badly and I’m starting to get worried that it’s going to get so bad that you won’t even be able to read it anymore. I’m currently storing it in a binder and it is inside of an acid-free, archival safe sheet protector. I’ve read online that the only way to save it would be to laminate it, but I don’t know if that’s a good idea in case it gets ruined during laminating or something.
Thanks in advance for the help!

The photo below is of the autograph the day I got it.

Also, the inscribed saying there is like slang from where I live. Don’t mind that. Newfoundland can be a weird place 😂 [ca]

Also, I have no intention of selling the autograph so destroying the value isn’t much of a factor. It would probably be hard to sell anyway because it has my name and a Newfoundland saying on it. I’m more interested in preserving it while still keeping it looking half decent.
