Hi,

It all depends on the weight of the envelope they are going to send back to you

There are online calculators, but I find them confusing and off
In general, 5 are more than enough from what I've read.

2 could work, small envelope with small picture

Yes, it really depends on the weight of the envelope and where it is being returned from. {up}

Re

I made some calculations for the people who are (like me) preparing their first batch of letters to go out.

Analysis:
If you expect (like I do) that they send you a authograph (8"x10") on marketing/high-end paper in a normal A4/Letter Large envelope, you get:

1 picture 8"x10" (if printed on high-end between 160&240gr/m2 ) = 10 or 15 gram (let's assume the worst cast 15)
1 Large A4/Letter Envelope = 18Gram
Ink & stamp (don't forget about those, it adds a wee bit, but normally expandable, just makingnote of it :)

Total = 15+18= 32 (let's round it up to 35 to again be very safe)

Since, in USA, 1 ounce = +/-28Gram sent internationally = 1 IRC
We conclude that 2 IRC's will cover your transactions

* A large letter = (Max. length 15", height 12" or more than 3/4" thick) so this is okay

Hope this helps everybody a wee bit

Very good explanation svenver.
I'm going to send my first letter and for C5 envelope with two photos(A5 size) i bought 2 IRC.
My problem is that i don't know how to calculate the weight. But i suppose (hope) it is no more than 50 grm.

Hi Diora,

I luckily found a little scale to do his.

If it helps you,
a A5 foto on thick paper is around 8 gram
Don't have a C5 letter to weigh it, but I can see it's about half a A4 letter; so I guess 10 gram max

10+8+8; your 2 IRC's (worth 40gram) are more than enough

svenver, I have went to the postoffice to weigh a letter with 3 photos and it weighed 52grm, and with your calculations: 18+10+8+8+8=52. {thumb2} Good work!!jaja
