I know this is probably a stupid question but it is something I have been wondering for a while. I have always tried to tell if autos are handsigned or preprinted but find it very difficult. Obviously with some pencil or some biro it is to an extent possible to feel the grooves made by the writing object but sometimes this is not possible. I have tried with the light tests but have never been able to work it out for myself.
So I would be greatful for any help.

Re: How to tell if it's a preprint
Hello
,
As a matter of fact the best way to get to known if it's a PP or not is to check out other successes with scans. If the signatures look exacly the same it means it could be a PP or AP. Although you should take a good look at the signature. Signatures, which are obviously AP or PP look mostly perfect.

If there is no previous feedback to compare to, follow these guidlines:
If the signature looks too perfect, it's most likely a AP. If there are obvious signs where the marker started and stopped throughout the autograph, it's most likely a AP. If there is no noticable differences in glare between the signature and the rest of the photo when held up to the light, it's most likely a PP. If the photo is signed in pen, rub your hand over the signature, if there is an indent, it may be authentic, but it might also be AP (refer to the first guidline), if there is no indent, it's most likely a PP.
It's easiest when there is previous feedback to compare to. I suggest looking at past feedback before sending out a request.
Studio Fan Mail and Celebrity Merchandise autographs are always PP's! Everytime, all the time!
Good luck!

There is One Way To Tell:
If You Can See The Picture Through The Marker Than Its Real...
But If You ONLY SEE The BLACK MARKER..It May Be a AP or a PP

Re: How to tell if it's a preprint
Thank you.
I have tried looking up other examples and there are a few on there which are the same cast cards as the ones I have. The autos are in slightly different places between the two which possibly rules out preprints. However, I am still a little unsure. When running my finger over them I cannot feel any sort of indent. Also with the ebay examples I am not quite sure whether they are cards sent out by the actors through individual requests or whether they were sent out by the production office like mine were (even though I asked months ago and had had my request fulfilled months ago - they resent me a complete set of new cards).

It is often said too that PP signatures appear to be 'beneath the gloss of the photo' and not on the surface and very flat too, if that makes any sense. Is there a picture in particular you need help with?KatrinaLouise wrote:Thank you.
