Hello, I know this question has been asked but no posts helped me.
I bought 10 ircs from the post office today here in the us.
office lady said my packages are 5 oz each and each irc is for 1 oz so I need to send 5 ircs each she said.
everyone on here said 3 should be good, so is it 3 or 5? anyone know?

Besides the weight, the size of the package, as well as the country it's being sent to are also factors in determining how many IRCs you'll need.

The Canada one needs 3 IRCs. This one is actually a bit unfortunate, because it costs $3.50 to send back to the US, and two IRCs is worth $3.40. So close.
The UK one needs 7 IRCs, going by the conversion that 5oz = 142g. If you know the exact weight of it in grams, the price could be lower. I'm also not sure if an autographed photo counts as "small packet/printed papers" (perhaps someone from the UK knows the answer?), but if it does, that'll also lower the price.

My Goodness that's a lot of IRC's needed for one request....needing 7IRCs is enough to put me off collecting! When sending to the US, I always include 2 IRCs and I've done ok so far...

If there's no letter in the envelope with the photo, it can go as printed paper.

This is because the US has a much higher minimum (about 28g) compared to the UK (10g), as well as higher increments (28g for US, 20g for the UK).
If it can go as printed paper, 4 IRCs will cover it.
