Whats 1 IRC equivalent to?

I've never used an IRC before and I was wondering what 1 IRC is equivalent to in US Stamps. Would 1 IRC be the same as a US 42cent stamp? How would I know how many to buy if I want to send one or two 8x10 pictures to get autographed oversees?
