1/1? 2/2? What's this nonsense?

So, just as I think I know all of the proper lingo, I keep seeing people spurt out "I got a 1/1 from yadeyada" or "Mr. Doodleydoo signed 2/2!"

What are these numbers all about?

1/1 means like a special custom card or photo that the fan made and NO ONE else has anything like it. 2/2 same thing. Can also mean he signed both photos that the fan sent.

....and sports card manufacturers (Topps, Upper Deck, and Panini) along with specialty card companies (Rittenhouse, Inkworks, etc...) produce cards of athletes and celebrities that have autographed versions that in many cases are machine numbered (xx/xx) to show the quantity signed for that particular card. It is a way to promote the value of "rare" autographed cards. For instance there have been well over a hundred + of Babe Ruth "cut signature" cards produced and virtually all have been numbered to no higher than 3 (his jersey number)....they just produce a different card each time they release a new autograph card for him.

AFAIK, it simply means the number of items sent, and number of items returned signed. So 1/1 means sent 1 item and got it back signed, 1/2 means sent two items but only signed one, etc.

And I'll never get used to the name Panini

I use it all the time so people can get an idea of how many items to send, if they wish. Some will only sign one item, while others will sign two or more items. It also comes in handy for me when others use it so I can tell at a glance how many items I can send.
