Need help with envelopes and postage. Please advise me!!!

Unread post by jimmymiro12 »

So I understand you need envelopes to send the letters to get autographs.

Now obviously you need 2: 1 with the SAE and the other that it will be held in. What size envelope is preferable for the envelope you are sending and the SAE? I don't think you can fit the same size one another so what sizes should i get? Also when I write a letter should I just put the SAE & the letter separately in the envelope I am sending? So what size envelopes do i need for both.

Also the second question is postage. Obviously to receive the autograph you need postage. How do I know what is adequate psotage and what should I do as far as getting postage? Ask the post office? ETC

Please help me out guys. I really want to get some letters i have written out so I can get some autographs.

And if you could give me any other helpful hints that would be great

THANKS A BUNCH,
Jimmy M

Most of your questions are already answered if you check the stickied topics (and other topics) in this forum.

You can send any envelope you like, as long as you can a) cover the price of postage and b) fit the photo inside. If you are sending a photo yourself, you obviously know what size envelope you need. If you are asking for a photo from the celebrity, then they are likely to either send 6x4 or A5 or 8x10s. Therefore consider sending A5 or A4 envelopes. A4 will obviously fit all 3 sizes, A5 wont fit A4 photos. You can fold the SASE envelope inside the main envelope, so you can get the same size for each. Smaller envelopes will cost less to send.

There are many options for payment on your SASE; stamps or (for international SASEs) International Reply Coupons. There are other topics with this information which you can find easily if you look. There's also information on how you can get hold of foreign stamps or IRC. Weigh your envelope & photo (or estimate what it would be with a photo) and consult the appropriate website such as www.usps.com or www.royalmail.com. If it's an internal letter (i.e. US to US or UK to UK etc) then you can get it weighed at the post office. Size may also be a factor, so make sure you check that.

Well if I want a 8x10 picture what size envelopes should i get for the SAE and the ones I send the person?

And when you use the SAE should you put the persons address at the top right corner or just put your address?

Thanks so much

When I send out for 8x10 photos, I take a 9x12 SASE and fold it three times and place it in a #10 business envelope. I don't use cardboard in mine and they always come back good and not bent up. {up}

I don't put the celebs name in the right corner, mainly because I don't want the post office to know who it's coming from. Instead I put my own address there and write the celeb initials next to it. {up}

Erm well, if you want an 8x10 you should send an envelope that is larger than 8x10? So it will fit inside? You can send any envelope you like for your letter, just as long as you can fit your letter & SASE inside (folded or otherwise, it's up to you).

The return address is used so the letter can be sent back if it is undeliverable. Therefore, I wouldnt bother putting anything (there's no point it going back to sender). Some people put their own address on there so that it gets "returned" to them, but that's pointless too - if it's undeliverable to your address, it'll still be undeliverable to the "return" address.

(FYI the return address goes on the top left corner, or the back - never top right, that's where the stamps go!)

I tend to buy a load of A4 envelopes and a load of C5 board backed envelopes for protection,put the self addressed C5 inside the A4 with a couple of photos,i have found that in the UK 2 x 2nd class stamps on both envelopes is enough and for Europe and the USA,3 x international reply coupons and £1.79 or slightly less,to post overseas.
I would always include board envelopes,as you dont know if the celebrity is away or busy or you may have an enthusiastic postal worker may bend them,i would alwasy include your own photos also,because if you leave the celebrity little to do,you get more success.My success rate is UK 100%,overseas 85%.
Good luck ,Mark :D
