SASE...From UK to USA???

Unread post by stagegirl »

Hi everybody! I'm new here, joined about a week ago. I've been reading all of the topics on postage/packaging/mailing of requests and I have a question for all of my new UK friends. Would someone please help me in trying to figure out the proper postage to use when sending something from the UK to the USA?

All of my "requests" are generally the same...size, weight, and contents. The SASE is a large envelope (9x12 in size) with three (3) index cards and a thin piece of cardboard to help keep it from bending during transport. It weighs between 2-3 ounces...never any more than that.

Would anybody know what/how much postage I will need to use in order to get my "LOR" safely back to me. I can get IRC's from my post office but don't really like to use them. I would prefer using British stamps instead. Could you please suggest to me how many stamps I would need to cover the three (3) ounces and which "denomination of stamp" would be the best to buy.

I apologize for all the questions but I have tried, endlessly, to find the information out for myself. Everywhere I look just confuses me even more.

Thank you for your time. Take care...

First class or second class stamps would be best (although you'll end up paying more than is necessary, it's easier than buying smaller denominations when you're sending SASEs from abroad).

1st Class are worth 41p. 2nd Class are worth 32p. You can buy "1st Class Large" and "2nd Class Large" which are 66p and 51p respectively. The fact that they're "Large" doesn't matter, just count the price.

So if for example you were sending a letter that weighed 35g that would be £1.46. 4 x First Class or 5 x Second Class or 3 1st and 1 2nd or... etc. It's up to you which stamps you buy :)
Favourite: David Tennant IP, John Barrowman IP, Patrick Stewart IP, Catherine Tate VV.
Newest: John Simm IP, Suranne Jones IP, Jonathan Groff IP.
