i just read on a theatres webpage that they don't accept any unsolicited material
does that mean that they don't forward fanmail?
sorry if it's a stupid question but i'm not sure what it means

No, it means that they dont want to be sent unsolicited scripts, or "please audition me for your next play" requests Fanmail should be fine.
