British Stamps help??

Hi all!

I'm living in Ireland, and IRCs are not available for purchase. I was looking to buy British stamps on the Royal Mail site, so as I could increase my chances of getting a response from British celebs (by including a SASE). There are a couple of questions I have regarding this, as I'm not familiar with the postage system in Britain:

(i) Does the Royal Mail shop post it's products overseas?

(ii) What stamp would send an A4 hardbacked envelope to Ireland?
(These seem suitable, but would I have to use more than one to pay for postage back here? -see link below.)

I would really appreciate your views on this.

Hi again,

I would really appreciate any comments on this, as there's a certain Via-Venue I wan't to try in about a month, and I would love to increase my chances by including a SASE. ;-)

Many thanks

Hi there,

I'm hoping this may help you:-

(i) Yes, RM does post overseas; just register and you can buy anything you want from their online shop.

(ii) I would recommend to buy 1st class stamp booklets. One 1st class stamp's value is 41p and postage for letters up to 20grms to Europe is 60p and up to 40grms is 88p, so just stick on 2 stamps for 20grms or 3 for 40grms. Additionally and to save money, you could get a sheet of 100 1p stamps, however the Royal Mail's online shop postage is much more expensive than for the booklets, so I'm recommending the first mentioned.

Good luck {up}

Ben ;-)

Hi Big Ben,

Thank you so much for your very comprehensive answer- I have ordered the stamps, and I have my envelope ready to seal once they get here! I do hope this VV pays off, having importing the stamps and everything!

I really appreciate your help with this.

Many thanks,

Please take a look at http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump ... aId=400036 for international prices.

Bear in mind that UK stamps come in "large" and "regular", as well as "1st class" and "2nd class". You can largely ignore the names, as these are for use with internal mail. However, all four differ in monetary value, which is the important thing with international mail.

1st Class (Regular) are the usual ones to buy, so you'll do fine with those. Just make sure you calculate the price you'll need to cover with the price table above :) Happily, if the value of stamps rises between now and when you use them, the value of the stamp you have rises too (i.e. there's no monetary value printed on them).
