and i can't identify an autograph i got!!! any help - its a sportsman in the UKcynical...........??????????????? do please explain that.... i simply couldnt identify the name - i got this a while ago, was recently sorting out some envelopes and re-discovered it. I think Jaffer means that when he sees a post like this, even if there is a valid reason (perhaps someone bought these in a random lot/inherited whatever and therefore doesn't know who the person is) he immediately (and cynically) imagines the person sending out letters just to get autographs, perhaps to sell. If one doesn't recognise someone, it suggests they only wrote to get the autograph and aren't really a fan of them at all. - i have not inherited it, or am i selling it - i re-discovered it, couldn't recognise the face or signature and simply asked for help. why would anyone see that as cynical though ?? i have recently started to list my successes to help other members - i will happily help anyone if i can 
It can also come from sloppy or non-existent record keeping. I seldom have an autograph that I can't name since I keep track of everything in a spreadsheet and, if necessary, label everything. I put a slip of paper in the back of the toploader with the name of the autograph. Then when I come back to it a few months later and have a hard time remembering who it is, the paper comes out and a permanent Dymo label goes on the back. Sometimes I just assume I might forget who it is and slap a Dymo label on the back for safety's sake.osiris wrote: think Jaffer means...

autograph collecting to me is all about the excitement of writing off / emailing to a celeb, i dont use spreadsheets to record successes, just my albums, im very happy to collect autographs and happy to help others in any way i candon't feel that way. A LOT of people on this forum spend WAY too much time and effort into this hobby. People shouldn't make you regret asking for help.
