In Photoshop though it is possible to enlarge with the photo to the correct size without cropping or distorting the photo itself. I just create a photo template 5x7 and 'place' the photo on the template and expand it till it fits. {up}

Some photos depending on the length/width ratio will not work and some will get cropped off, but these did fine. {up}

No, it's not, and it's not a matter of what program you use, it's just the size and height/width ratios of the pictures. In all three of the photos, you will have to run into one of the scenarios I posted - either it gets cropped, or you get blank space on the sides, or the picture needs to be distorted. None of them can perfectly fit to a 5x7.

Okay, if say so. But I managed to turn them into 5x7's just fine. the only that needed cropped was the example you posted, but it wasn't much. {up} If you want, i can even make you a video of how I do it.

It isn't "if I say so", it's math. I don't need a video, but why don't you just upload your edited photos here? I can point out where each of yours differs from the original photo.

IMO, none of the pictures really needed any editing to begin with, and it's just better to have the machine crop the excess off. The first picture barely exceeds the 5x7 ratio, cutting off that excess would be virtually unnoticeable. The second picture I think would look alright enough whether it's cropped or resized into the 5x7. The last picture, which I would actually avoid using due to the small size and watermark, can also be cropped without any noticeable effect.

Sure thing dude! Here's the photos in the 5x7 format. Like I mentioned above their was a little cropping on the one, but the others worked great. {up}

Yes, that one is cropped, but so are the other two. I've cut out a spot from each of those photos that shows that it's cropped. Originals on the left, your edits on the right.

There's nothing wrong with cropping, I do it all the time. As I mentioned in the previous post, and as your edits have conveniently proved, the difference between the originals and the cropped versions isn't really that noticeable. But it's just not a perfect fit, which is what I was saying all along.

While cropping is okay, I would recommend against enlarging the pictures. Doing that would cause a loss in quality, even when it's later resized back down. It's best to just find a large a picture as possible, and crop out of that.

I've found that very few files will translate to a common photo size. Cropping is almost always necessary, sometimes just a little, sometimes a lot. It's just a matter of experience and experimentation.

Thanks to everyone for all their input. Thanks especially to Ryan. I went back to walmart to try again tonight and everything seemed to fit fine. I set it to pick up on the 19th, so I guess then I'll know for sure lol.
