International Postage

Unread post by tinker_mel »

With my requests I usually send 2 IRC's to cover the return postage, but I know the UK postage prices are going to change, will this affect anything? And I should add an extra IRC?

I'm not too sure and it's a Saturday so my brain is officially not awake! :mrgreen:

I'm not familiar with the UK price rises, but I can tell you that this will have no effect in the amount of IRC's you send to someone.

Regardless of how much an IRC costs, you can exchange it in another country for the minimum amount of postage an unregistered, standard letter by air mail can be sent overseas. So, even if the price of postage rises in another country, the IRC should still do the same job. You won't need to add any extra IRC's to your postage, 2 will be sufficient.

However, the rise in postage costs will have an effect. This will probably mean that the cost to send your request to another country will rise, by how much, that I don't know. You'll have to find that out (see Ian's sticky at http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?t=14167.)

Good luck tinker_mel!

Thank you hunni, usually my brain would figure that out but I figured other people may be thinking the same?

I'm a bit bummed about the price rising though, it was expensive as it was! :roll:

Hey guys {up}

I have posted the new post prices for the UK on the Postal Prices thread: http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic.php?t=14167

As far as I am aware, the April price rise is only for domestic UK postage, so overseas will not be affected. However, the prices are changing again in August, and this will affect overseas.

Hi johnnygirl13 {up}

IRC means International Reply Coupon, which is a coupon you buy at your local post office to enclose with your requests so that the celeb/manager/agent can exchange it in their local country/post office for the cost of return postage.

However, it usually only covers the cost of returning a basic letter, so it is good practice to enclose a couple of IRCs for anything bigger.

You may well find that they are not that easy to come by though - for example I can't get them at my local post office, so it is often easier to purchase foreign postage stamps over the internet.

Best of luck!
