Is the c/o necessary?

When you are writting an address, say one like this:
Zac Efron
c/o Gold/Liedtke & Associates Talent Agency
3500 West Olive Ave., Ste. 1400
Burbank, CA, 91505
Is there any reason why you can't just write:
Zac Efron
3500 West Olive Ave., Ste. 1400
Burbank, CA, 91505
I mean, would it still get to him if you didn't? I don't see any reason why you wouldn't other than to just save time or something, and it wouldn't even save too much time, so it's pretty much just lazy not to, but if you didn't would it get there? I have never left it off, but if anyone has and a reply has come back would you let me know? I'm just curious.
Thanks.
