Sending books

Unread post by -Sergio- »

Hi!
It will be the first time I ask for an autograph via mail and I wondered if it is possible to send a book in order to be signed. The author would be Maya Angelou (I've read she signed bookplates), but I don't know if she would sign a book...

And I also would like to know how to do it, i'm a bit lost with SASE, IRC and all that   . I live in Spain, if it matters ;).

Thank you so much in advance,

Sergio.

Back in early 2010 I sent Ms. Angelou an 8x10 to autograph, and she mailed back that photo, and included one of her autobiographies(which I did NOT ask for at all!) Personally autographed to me. So I think she'd sign a book. She did stamp for a while, though. She is 84 afterall. I would Definitely get US stamps, it'd be alot of postage for her to add. When she mailed mine back she added no extra postage so I paid the extra 5 dollars. Totally not complaining just letting you know. She is a wonderful lady and I wish you the best in your request to her. Probably could use a bubble mailers, too.

Oh! thank you a lot, KennyDolly :D

I'll investigate a little more about what I have to do and what to include in the mail. In the forum you have a great amount of information.

Thank you, thank you! ;-)

I wrote Oliver Sacks an email and they replied me saying he admits signing books when you send them with a return envelope. So... if I send the book, inside the envelope I add another envelope with the corresponding stamps to get it back to Spain and I'll have it back. Is that correct?
As you can see, it's the first time I send something to an author

Btw, if someone wants the address:

OLIVER SACKS, M.D.
2 Horatio St. #3G
New York, NY 10014
USA

tel: 212.633.8373
fax: 212.633.8928

You need your book and an envelope with YOUR address on it with US stamps on it. Both of those items and your letter go inside another envelope addressed to DR. Sacks with stamps to get from Spain to the US.

So you have:
the book
envelope addressed to you with US stamps
envelope addressed to Dr. Sacks
letter

Good luck! I am preparing to send a book to an author as well and it will cost a bunch so be prepared for that.
