How to protect autograph from smearing?

I got an autographed picture today and part of it was smeared and it will continue to smear if I put it in one of those photo protector sleeves. Is there anything that I can spray on it to keep if from smearing?
Thanks

The only thing I could think to spray on it would be like something you would spray on a drawing so it won't smear. But those things tend to make the picture sticky, so, I wouldn't recommend that....
Do you use glossy photos?
It's for the smearing reason that I've switched to matte or soft gloss photos...

The package says glossy but I would says its more of a matte finish.

I've been spraying the ones I have, signed in silver Sharpie(which smudges easliy) with Krylon Crystal Clear. It's a clear acrylic spray that will end up with a mostly glossy finish, but won't hurt or react to the Sharpie sig. As long as you spray it in nice even coats you'll be fine. Be sure to try it out on a dummy photo before moving on to an actual auto.

Thanks for your help! At the begin of next month the person will be in my area again so I am going to send another picture and tell him the reason why.
