Matte or Glossy paper?

Unread post by starreyes »

I was ordering some pictures on Snapfish to send via venue (Thanks nowandagain!) to Switchfoot, and I found that I could choose between Matte and Glossy paper. Which should I choose, or does it really matter?

Matte would absorb the ink more, right?

Hi starreyes :D

Choosing the finish of the photo paper is a matter of preference.

Matt paper is nice because you can't really see fingerprints on it if someone holds it. However, the photo doesnt quite look as nice as glossy paper.

Glossy paper is nice and shiny. It's gives a nice finish to your photos. The problem with this is fingerprints are easily seen if the photo isn't handled carefully.

Personally, when I have my photos printed I like to have them printed on matt paper. This is because I don't know how much handling the photo will take before it gets back to me (mind you - my photos travel half-way around the world and back!)

Anyway, it's up to you to choose. Good luck starreyes!

Thanks nowandagain! :P I think I'll do matte paper too, at least this time, so I can see how it compares. Fingerprints might be sort of cool, if they were only the person who was signing it's fingerprints, but like you said, if you get to much handling then fingerprints could be bad. I have a few done already on glossy paper, and they turned out well, but I'll see how matte looks before I make a complete and total desicion forever. :P Thanks again!

I personally prefer matte. I think the photos are actually just as nice as on glossy, and like nowandagain said you can't see fingerprints. There also isn't as much glare :D

I use Glossy - but I print my own, and so Glossy looks better because I am not using specialised equipment, and I also want to try and make my picture looks as much like 'real' camera photos as possible. I agree with the idea of fingerprints on the photos though, but so far, none of my TTM photos have been smeared in fingerprints, and the odd one here and there, to me, adds to the effect. But it is down to personal preference.
