Why Index Cards? Just a quick question

Why do collectors send Index cards with their LOR? Just wondering, just for an extra autograph or what? I mean, I send index cards with my ttm as well, but only because everyone else does. What's the purpose?

i was sending index cards cause i did not have a photo or a card to send myself. they are cheap and if you lose them then you are not out alot of money.

Mostly what supertoneman said in the above post, but you also get a clear view of the actual autograph. They are also great for matting. Only problem is alot of celebs don't like to sign plain index cards because of the ability to copy them quite easy.

Theres a guy on ebay that makes really nice index card 8x10 mats. Sometimes an index card matted with an 8x10 looks better than if they actually signed on the photo. Shows up crystal clear and if they don't send it back its no big deal. I send 8x10's with a semi rigid photo mailer which gets expensive and keeps me from sending a bunch out. Index cards I could send out a ton of them for the cost of one 8x10.
I also don't do inkjets (they fade alarmingly fast, ink doesn't hold to them like a normal photo) and would much rather have an index card signature that I could mat than an inkjet one.

I agree wholeheartedly....sometimes the celeb will sign a picture wherever (even covering their face at times). If you didn't want to matte an index card with an 8x10 you could even make custom cards and cut a window out to put the index card behind...this works great if you are working on cast projects.
