I don't understand how UK stamps work? :/

I was (and will!) order some, but I need to make sure they're the right ones for posting TO Australia FROM the UK? How many of those would I need for a standard A4 size letter with a SASE, Photo and possibly a bit of cardboard in there?

You need to know the weight of the letter. Then you can check the price according to it's weight here:

For example, if your letter weights 41-60 grams (i think that's about right for A4 and not very thick cardboard) you'll have to apply £2.48 worth of stamps
For 80g you'll have to apply £3.08 and so on

Just keep in mind that prices go up every once in a while, so you better use some more stamps than you're supposed to (no one knows how long your letter will be waiting there, prices may rise).

They all are usable, but I personally buy standard stamps with Queen's profile of different values. You just have to make sure the total sum of your stamps isn't less than you need. For example, to apply 2.48 you can use two £1 and one £0.5 (that wil be 0.02 more than you need, but who cares )
