So I know there are tons of sites to buy photos from, but I see sometimes that people will download and print out photos themselves. Can someone give me tips on what kind of paper to use for printing photos?

If you're printer's damn good at photo printing, and you have some real nice paper, then it doesn't hurt to try printing from home. That said, I usually pick out pictures off the internet and have them printed with aldiphotos.co.uk . I'm sure there are equivalent services worldwide that offer similar printing, aldiphotos' price is really amazing and would probably be cheaper than printing at home, with better results.

I usually look for pictures on Google (the larger images), and have them printed in a Print Shop.

You could try having them printed with Snapfish. I've had personal pictures done by them before and was thinking of trying them for this.

If you're going to use your own printer, make sure you choose archival quality printer paper. Canon do a range which is suitable although not especially cheap. I use Marrutt paper myself.

Snapfish is great for it! They are very cheap, and do not care if you are printing pictures from movies or shows (copyright stuff). I have done it many times with them online and all my stuff has always been shipped to me. I do 4x6 pictures since they are only nine cents before shipping, and I choose to print them Matte since I think it is better for this.

I use Snapfish UK and have no complaints.
In addition, I joined their mailing list as they have offers on prints all the time. I can't recall when I last paid full price! Sometimes they offer like 40% off plus free shipping!

If you live near a Walmart, sign up for a Walmart account and get 25 free 1 hour prints! NO shipping charges at all! Costco is lovely for printing photos!

If you are printing at home, use premium photo paper from kodak, hp, epson, etc.

I download the ones I want then take them to Copy Max and have them print it on photo quality paper. Overall, they look pretty good and the paper is fairly heavy. Just make sure you pick a large picture. If it's small and you have them enlarge it the picture will pixelate and won't look good. It would probably be best to print a test picture at home to check the quality before you take it someplace for a final printing.
