Money in place of stamps?

Has anyone had any luck putting in a few dollars with a SAE over stamps? I live in the UK so I can't get US stamps or IRC and I was wondering if I was worth doing it or if I would be wasting money?
I'm also very new to this so any advice would be welcome
I'm sending to Ming Na Wen if that makes any difference?
Thank you :-)

You can find Global Forever Stamps or a range of various others via ebay.

Is just one Global Forever stamp good for anywhere, anything?

1 Global Forever stamp is generally good to go anywhere for a standard envelope weighing up to 1oz.
I would recommend checking out
www.usps.com for size limits and they also have a price calculator.
Alternately I have seen people have success with sending a few $1 bills.
Your questions come up numerous times on this section of the forum so doing some browsing and reading might be beneficial

I've had a look at the USPS website and, for a large (A4 12' x 9") envelope which does not bend, postage looks to cost $42. That sounds very expensive when compared to how much it would cost to send the same thing from the UK to the US.
Is that right or is it way more than I should include in money or stamps?

If you run that calculation again, scroll down to the bottom of the results, you will see
"First Class International options >>Click to see these options"
Click where directed and that will display the correct price for what we would call standard airmail
USPS for some reason don't like to easily show the cheapest cost ;)

I see – it was hiding!
Value of contents can not exceed $400.00
Other than rolls: Max. length 24", max length, height and depth (thickness) combined 36"
Rolls: Max. length 36". Max length and twice the diameter combined 42"
Price $9.45, Online Price $8.88
That seems much more reasonable!
Thanks
