IRC coupons in the UK

I have a question: are IRc's still working in the UK? I know that Royal Mail stopped selling them, but are they exchangable into stamps? I mean, if I sent a letter from Poland to UK, can I put IRC instead of British stamps inside the envelope? Will it work?

Yes they will work {up}

Member countries of the IRC scheme are not obliged to sell them, but they are obliged to accept them for exchange.

I used to use IRCs a lot and I don't remember getting many replies with them. I have since sent (with stamps) to almost all the people who didn't reply with IRCs and got replies from the majority. I'm not convinced that IRCs work - it's too much effort for them to sort it out.
