A bit of a newbie question

Unread post by automan »

Hi

I have been collecting autographs for years now and have over 150 so im not new to the hobby. In the past I have only got my sigs ip but now due to work reasons I don’t have time to get ip. The question i really want to ask is that i want to send a request letter to the US and don’t really understand irc ect so if some one could post a step by step guide from the post office eg what you need to buy ect to coming thu your letter box it would be great. Sorry for the stupid question but im a bit slow at this sort of thing!!! Also I live in the UK

thanks

Dear automan,

here's what you need for a request from the UK to the USA:

- two 9x12 inch envelopes (or A4)
- 5x7 inch/8x10 inch photos to send (unless you don't want to send your own photos)
- two International Reply Coupons (IRC) or US $1.70 in unused US stamps
- your letter
- two "Priority"/"Airmail" stickers.

What you do first is writing the letter. Then you address the first envelope with the celebrity's address. Make sure to write the address down neatly. Then you place your own address in the top left corner of the envelope and place one of the "Priority"/"Airmail" stickers on it.

Now you take the second envelope and address it with your own address. To be on the safe side I recommand you place your own address as return address in the top left corner, so your letter will get back to you in any case. Then you place the "Priority"/"Airmail" stickers on the envelope as well as the return postage of US $1.70 (unless you are enclosing IRC's). Now fold the stamped, and self-addressed return envelope and enclose it in the first envelope along with your photos and your letter.

You can get International Reply Coupons at any post office in the UK, but since they are quiete expensive I recommand you use US stamps. You can get unused US stamps cheap off eBay or from your local stamp dealer.

If you have any more questions do not hesitate to ask.

Good luck,
Stephan

lol, I've only used IRCs 2 times, other than the quickness in reply I dont find them very useful lol, most of the requests I've sent with out one has come back before the three month mark.
