Do you put the envelope in your folder along with the photo?

yes, you might want to add a cardboard to the evelope incase the picture gets bent,

or write DO NOT BEND PHOTO INSIDE on it

Hi chris_dillon10,

I think you meant whether you should keep the envelope with the photo once you have received it back signed? (In your autograph collection/storage folder or whatever.)

If so, my advice would be YES. Most collectors keep the return envelope as it can help confirm the autograph to be genuine, especially if it is postmarked or franked by the agency representing the celebrity.

It is not so important to keep the envelope if you receive an official letter with the auto. After all, if you are collecting for your own enjoyment it really doesn't matter. It is only really important if you plan to sell you collection at some stage.

Being as I am collecting for charity, I save all envelopes as it is important to show the authenticity of the auto at auction.

Since I'm just a collector collecting for my own sake I keep envolopes is they have a return address.

1. So I can write back again in later years or give to a friend.
2. So people no it's real.


If they dont have a return address I just don't like to keep them because they seem like just another envolope to me.

Sometimes it is worth keeping the envelope even without a return address if it is franked or postmarked for the celeb or their agent.

Although I agree, if there is absolutely no link to the celeb, there does not seem much point in keeping the envelope.

The envolopes I throw away have nothing on them.

Hi all... I'm a new user on this forum, It's quite hard to find a forum on autograph collecting and I commend the site moderators for their work.

In regards to keeping envelopes I personally do (although each to your own).
I write letters to past and present sportsmen and keep a record of the questions I asked, when I wrote the letter, when posted and when received (in an exercise book). I put the autographs I receive in an acid free photo album and the letters in plastic covers (which are inserted into a ring binder).
Just in case I lose the book with the information on I:
keep the SASE behind the letter which I received
put the sportsmans name on the back along with *date received and a *copy of the questions I asked the sportsman...

Call me pedantic but I find that instead of having to refer to my book all the time I can simply flick to the back of the letter for a copy of the questions which I asked (if the person was playing funny buggers and answering breif answers).
