of course its cheaper to email studiofanmail for preprints or autopens, but not all celebrities are with sfm. You can find a list of sfm clients in the studiofanmail section of this site.
All you have to do is send your address to the studiofanmail email address, dont bother writing a letter because the celeb will never read it.

Hi Ryanruffy wrote:so how does s.f.m really work? do the celebs see anything or do they just send a whole bunch of pics to sfm allready sighned ?or does smf send them pics to be sighned? ty Ryan

SFM are hired by celebrities to send photos out on their behalf. The celebrities have an email address in which fans can send a request to. I would assume a employee of SFM will sort out requests and address the envelopes to you to send out.
Celebrities will not see the letters you send to SFM. SFM has been hired by the celebrity to handle their fan mail as they probably don't want to deal with the mail themselves.
The pictures you receive from SFM are either PP or Autopen. SFM probably receive (or print) a pile of photos which have PP or Autopenned signatures to send out to fans. They do not send out original autographs, nor do they send pictures to a celebrity to be signed.
I hope this clears up your question.
