Forwarding

How does “Forwarding†a letter/envelope/package work?
I have letters arriving at my house addressed to my cousin (who moved back to Taiwan last October). My mom just collects all these envelopes that arrive for her and when I go visit Taiwan in the summer, I carry it with me and personally hand-deliver it to my cousin.
I was wondering, can I just forward the envelopes to her?
Do I just write the words “Please Forward†and her address in Taiwan on the envelope, and stick it back in the mailbox?
Thanks

Hi Josie
If your cousin was still living in the US, you could probably just forward letters to her by writing "Please forward to
address" on them. The best way however, would be to fill out a
change of address form to forward all mail to the new address.
The issue here is that since she's moved back to Taiwan, I don't think the USPS would allow you to do that (if it was possible, it probably would be cheaper for someone to send letters overseas at domestic prices using this method).
You're probably just going to have to either hand deliver the envelopes if you're going overseas (as you have said) or collect them and post them off in one envelope to her.

Thanks nowandagain!
I will definitely use that link you gave me

So (out of curiosity), the post office will forward my letter if I just write the words on the envelope and stick it back in my mailbox, without adding on new stamps?

I would assume it should work if you're forwarding to an address in the US, but maybe not overseas (due to postage). You'll have to confirm with the post office to be certain as I am not 100% familiar with the USPS guidelines.
Anyway, check out this link
