Has anyone trying to get a copy of a signed book when an author is having a book signing by calling in? I assume the best bet would be if you knew someone in the city for whom you could just have it put on hold. It's worth a shot, but if anyone has input it would be much appreciated.

That's how I've gotten a majority of signed books. Whether or not they do it depends on the celebrity and the store.

Thanks for the info! Did you just call the store? Were they able to ship it or was it for pick up only?
Any successful "venues" you can speak of?

I know bookends will let you buy signed books from them.

Depending on the celebrity, Borders and Barnes and Noble, might do it for you. Yes they do ship, usually Fed-Ex or UPS, which you have to pay for. All I did was call the day before the signing. Sometimes, they tell you to call back after the signing. When they tell me this, I usually call about an hour into it, instead of at the end.

Thanks! I appear to have had a success already. I called Barnes & Noble in Lincoln Center the day before Tom Perrotta (Election, Little Children) had a signing and they took all my info and said it would be no problem.
There are some other good one's coming up that I will also try.

My sister is a manager at a Books A Million and i think she'd do it, but you'd need to find out what authors are going to be there.
