Is my Autograph collection doomed????

Unread post by Atomic ant »

Hi. Please can you help.

All the time, I have been collecting autographs, I have been putting them in plastic folders, I have just found out that, they are not acid free.

And some of the IP autographs are two years old. So is it to late to save them.

Many Thanks.

Atomic ant.

as long as you can get them out of the folders without them sticking to them, they should be ok

Ok. Sorry we all make mistakes. And as everyone else, we do worry about our collections.

hi there. i have kept all my autographs in non acid free wallets and there all fine.
the only thing i would say not to do with autographs is stick them behind glass in a frame. unless there is some sort of cardbord border infront of the autograph as the autographed picture will stick to the glass over time.

I had some of mine in non-acid-free plastic for over 4 years with no damage, so I'd suggest that yours are safe.

A lot of the covers, slips, and binders you get now are acid free due to ingestion hazards. I think your autograph collection will be fine. I have a lot of binders that didn't specify if they were acide free or not and still have kept my autographs in mint condition!!

Hi Atomic ant {up}

Andy316 is right. Your autos will in all likelihood be fine, the only exception to this is if they have been kept in a very humid environment where the action of the plastic & moisture might have begun reacting together.

However, this is very unlikely in a residential situation, so I would say you should be OK {thumb2}

Yes, thank you guys, also! I was going to post a topic on this because I didn't notice whether or not my autographs are in acid free covers. But they've only been in there a couple months and I have noticed no change.

I was not about to pay around $5 for a pack of..like..what..maybe 15 acid free ones? It's kinda average temperature here other than in winter, but they're kept in the living room so they're fine.

Thanks guys!
