Hi -

I have an HP printer... I recently bought some 3M glossy photo paper from Staples, and it prints great... BUT, I decided to test different pens on the paper, and it was BAD... Here's what happen:

Paint Pen - Chipped off
Silver sharpie - rubbed off (very little force applied)
Black sharpie - best (but faded when rubbed)
Gold - same as silver sharpie

What is going on here? I wouldn't want the celeb to sign in silver and then have it rub off in the mail...

Any suggestions? I've noticed that HP glossy photo paper is little better, but maybe someone knows what is going on and how to fix it...

Whoa that is crazy. I have no idea since I don't have a photo printer but I think because 3M paper isn't good for writing. I think it'll be best on HP paper because it's really nice.

Yes, Photo printer paper is THE WORST to use for autograph collecting I made the same mistake, and on the ones I sent the signatures have chipped off or smeared. I don't think this paper was intended for sharpies or paint pens as the ink can't soak into the fibers, thus allowing it to smear as soon as it's placed in the envelope or rubbed. My advice you is: to take your photos to wal-mart or a photo developing place. they use a special type of photo paper and printer that works the best for getting them autographed. the matte photo paper is the option I choose.
