Well, what the title says really. I have a general idea of what I want to write in my letter (to Helena Bonham Carter), but trying to write the first line is stopping me write the rest. Much like with important essays.

Do I start with something kind of formal like "firstly, let me introduce myself" or just a "how are you"? I never know!

Please help or direct me somewhere with answers because I really want to send whilst she's seemingly replying!

When I was starting to write letters, I was wondering the same thing. Now, I always start my letter "Dear xxx, my name is *** and I'm *** years old. I live in ***." and then I start the paragraph about the celebrity like "Not long time ago I saw your movie XXX and I liked you there very much" or something like that. Not sure if other members do this in the same way, I just wanted to help you with telling you my way

i think you should start it with - my name is ............ and I am a fan of your fantastic acting abillity.

Hey!

I think it's better to keep your letter unique, and a bit whacky, so they remember who you are. It's fine to put smiley faces everywhere in your letter.

Say if it's a band, I would normally write:


Dear _______

I really like your work. I admire you etc. First sentence/paragraph, I explain why I like them so much.

Then the next paragraphs about me, like my name is _____ and I live in ______. I think it's a shame that hardly anyone's heard of you, where I live is full of chavs. I normally say if it's someone who wishes they were famous, or a band that's not that well heard of, but the reason changes each time, and sometimes the reason is really stupid.

The next paragraph I write is normally about what I like about their work/what projects I've enjoyed. For example: I really like the song "_______," I particually enjoyed the album "______" because it's a bit crazy, and it keeps my parents out of my bedroom for a while (:

And then I finish with the Please can I have your autograph part, and wish them luck.


I know you asked for the first sentence, but I waffled on for a bit, I honestly have nothing better to do!

Dear .......

My name is ..... and I am an ...-year old, massive fan of yours from ......... . I'm writing to tell you how much I admire your career, and also to kindly ask if you would grant my request for an autographed picture of yourself.
