Firts Day Cover

Hi! I'm kinda new on this so please forgive me if this is a stupid question: what's up with autographs on First Day Covers? Never understood that! Are they worth more?

Pennebaker, John Cleese, Eric Idle, Fats Domino, Clem Burke, Damon Lindelof, John Paul Jones, Pelé, Olivia De Havilland, Tony Bennett, Ron Wood, Francis Ford Coppola, Michael Jackson, Roman Polanski, David Lynch, Richie Ramone, Bill Wyman, David Walliams, Jane Fonda, Matt Lucas, Jerry Lee Lewis, Chuck Berry, Richie Ramone and Klaus Voormann.

Most wanted: Paul McCartney, Keith Richards, Ron Wood, Mick Taylor, David Lynch, Richie Ramone, Clem Burke/Elvis Ramone, John Paul Jones, Jeff Buckley.

Failures: Katie Holmes, Bono, Elton John.

These tend to be very valuable when they're signed by a person of relevance to what they depict - more valuable than say, a 4x6 photo. The reason is probably because you're getting something highly collectable (an autograph) on something that's already highly collectable (a first day cover). In my opinion an autographed first day cover always looks really elegant and slick.

I asked because I keep seeing autographs on First Day Covers that are totally unrelated, like a Bardot signature on a, I don't know, Flag Day FDC. That's a little weird, isn't it?
