Celebrities that charge for an autograph
I know some people don't mind paying. And some would only pay for the autograph if the person were in person at a convention or something. Either way, I will not pay any celebrity, whether retired, or still working for their signature. Some people ask why and here is my reason:
I become a devoted fan. I never miss a television appearance or movie. I always try to keep up with their work.
I end up somehow buying merchandise because of the commercials during the television show. I go to the movie theater and shell out upwards of $10 or more to see their new picture. While watching previews, there are ads for more movies and goods, and it becomes the domino effect and I shell out more money. After supporting them so that they can live in a fancy Bel Air mansion and drive a fancy expensive sports car, they have the audacity to ask me for money for a lousy signature ? They way I see it, some of them owe us back some money. Maybe when they start reducing that lavish lifestyle I might reconsider. But until then, as long as someone like, say, Yvonne Craig (T.V.'s Batgirl), is asking me for $25.00, I won't budge. Are you serious, $25 ? Yes. She is retired. Gosh, guess that Hollywood pension plan did not pay off too well, huh ?
Anyone else feel the same or have something to add that they don't like about having to pay for a signature ?

I share your feelings on this topic completely! Never in my life will I ever pay for a celebrity autograph, no matter who they think they are! I don't agree with celebrities who try and pocket even more money for themselves off extorting fans. We support everything they do, the least they can do is show some appreciation. Even if it's for charity, no, not at all - and this is my opinion. If I want to donate to charity on my own terms and time, then that's my perogative.

The only 3 people I may consider paying for are MADONNA, MICHAEL JACKSON and PRINCE.

Re: Celebrities that charge for an autograph
I disagree 100%! Yes, there are celebrities who charge money for their autographs but many of these people are retired and back in their hey day didn't earn half as much as the stars of today. Many of these celebrities rely on the little extra income that selling their autographs brings in. And as for those who sign on behalf of charities, why not? If I thought that selling my signature would help build a school for underprivileged children, I would do it in a shot!
It is not a celebrity's duty to sign autographs for us. I am very glad that a lot of them do or this hobby would be pointless! There are a few celebrities who are just greedy and charge money for their signature for selfish reasons but a majority ether do it for a good cause or basically need the money! I don't have a problem with paying for signatures as long as it's for the right reasons.

Re: Celebrities that charge for an autograph
i dont disagree with the op but i don't agree either , i mean their are some celebs that have a right to charge a example is bob feller. the man played baseball when a pro baseball salary wasnt good enough to support a family, he had to work on the farm in the summer to make extra cash and hes a war vet ,he complety has the right to charge 20 dollars, for a autograph. now a celeb that i feel shouldnt be charging is jay noth( the guy from the original dennis the menace ) i mean the guy was a child star ,and did a couple things but not much(he isnt even a celeb anymore and hasnt been for many years) , i mean if anything he should be a great signer like, june foray super fast and amazing reply, june replys in ten days with a couple sigs and is extremly greatfull to her fans and she has a much better resume. i do not have a problem with a celeb signing just for charity thou like bono or hayden panettiere. i purchased a personalized auto from haydens charity site with no problem and looked forward to the day i received it and i consider it a success i call it a had to pay for success.
anyway my point was some people have the right to charge but others dont and also paying and the money goes to charity is ok also

Re: Celebrities that charge for an autograph
I think it depends on how badly you want the persons autograph. Personally I would pay if I wanted there sig on photo - can't see the problem. Yeah, but in a perfect world ... blah blah blah ... but it aint! HC x
Re: Celebrities that charge for an autograph
Depends on the "celebrity" for me. A lot of the older stars who charge money probably rely on that extra money rolling in. And even if they are well off (when I mean well off, I don't mean mercedes and mansion on the beach, I mean enough to pay the bills with a little bit extra, etc), an extra $10-$20 is good for everybody.
And I would say that most of the *more then well off* stars who charge money, donate most of it.
There are always exceptions but I think for the most part charging is ok.
I actually think it is pretty selfish to think that they are supposed to sign for us

Re: Celebrities that charge for an autograph
I think it's worth it to pay for an autograph in some cases. When proceeds go to charity, or it's an 'older' celebrity that makes some money that way. If you would buy autographs from dealers you'd pay too. For me especially at a convention when you can meet the star and have them sign exactly what you want, then I don't mind forking over a few bucks.
