Blue Ink

Unread post by BlueSky »

One thing I've lateley noticed is that whenever I use blue ink on my SASE's or whenever a family member or penpal uses blue ink,
the mail takes much more time to get here than usually, Am I just being paranoid or does the post office have anything against using
blue ink on envelopes? Usually when I write to venues in Sweden I get faster replies using black ink instead of blue and I've noticed
that when getting letters from penpals and family members, the mail gets to me quicker when they've used black ink :?

It shouldn't have an affect on your mail to be honest...I can understand if you write the address in luminous yellow or something, but blue should be okay. Perhaps ask your local post office if writing in blue ink on envelopes is 'problematic' in any way?

I always use black ink however, due to it being immediately clear and bold to the eye.
AUTHENTIC, OR NOTHING AT ALL.

Okay, thanks for replying I'll ask the post office next time I mail something ;-)
the blue ink I use does easily smudge so maybe they have a issue with that =/

Hi BlueSky :D

I would assume it is the same in other countries, but here in Australia it is recommended by Australia Post (the post office) to use black ink (preferably on white envelopes) when addressing envelopes. It makes it easier for the post office to sort the letters so they get to their destination quicker.

Plus, it's also a good idea to make sure addresses are written clearly on envelopes as well. You'll help make the post office's job a lot easier and it's more likely that your mail won't get lost.

You might want to consider checking out your post office's website for addressing guidelines to ensure you address your requests properly. For example, Australia Post lists its addressing guidelines here.
