Another question about pictures

Unread post by wolfmyjic »

The stores in my area have really come down on printing copyrighted pictures. Places like Wal-Mart and CVS and such. My question is, does anybody know what the law is about printing a picture found on the internet?? Like a press release done for publicity (sp)?? Can I print those kind of pictures??

thanks!

If its a copywrited photo then you need permission to reproduce (print) it.

However, 99% of people on here dont pay any attention to that, and print them off anyway :D

I would suggest asking the photographer or image owner before using the pictures as i know many photographers who have taken people to court and suing them cause people have used there images.(i know seems a little over the top) it is always best just to ask them cause it's breaking the law otherwise.

So is it safer to purchase a picture to send in to get signed vs. printing off a picture found on google?? And then, how do you know that the piture bought from like eBay is a legal copy and not somebody printing a picture they found on google?? I mean, one photo I looked at said "Whis is a a real photo not a crappy computer printout". Well, with a good printer, I can print a 'real' photo. Example, I looked up photos of Carmine Giovinazzo, and all the photos I find on eBay I find through google.

It's hard to know what to do. Cheaper to print it out myself...but which is 'more' legal??

Am I right in thinking that if an image is over 50 years old it is no longer under copyright... although I don't think that will be too much use to you...

So the bottom line is- I should be okay printing out a picture AS LONG as I'm not going to make any money off the picture.

Thanks for all the help!! {thumb2}
