Helping my friend set up a site to sell his signed items

Unread post by solar_vortex »

Hi everyone! I'm Charlie and I'm currently in the process of assisting my friend in building a website where he is going to be buying and selling autographs. He used to own a music store in Newcastle, UK and has been collecting signed memorabilia for a long time. I really want to make the site appealing to the discerning autograph collector and as such I was wondering if anyone here would be willing to check it over and get back to me with their opinions? If anyone would be kind enough to do this please leave a comment or a personal message and I will send you the link.

I must point out that I know very little about autograph collecting myself and my mate knows only the basics regarding computers but between us we are hoping to make a success out of the site. I suppose the main problem is trying to make the site look as genuine as possible. I think it may help us that he still runs a CD selling business on Amazon and as such has a registered business address which I have placed on the site. He also has loads of photos of himself with may of the celebrates he has signatures of which I am going to get on the site at some point.

I would also be grateful if anyone has an idea of where the best place to advertise (free or paid) such a site might be? Perhaps some of you guys would be interested in a links exchange or something? My friend is really excited about the whole thing but he seems to just expect to start selling things right away. He's already typing search terms into Google looking for our site lol

Thanks again for any help you guys can give us.

If he plans on making a normal commercial store site I'd reccommend against using freewebs (especially the free sites, which can show a lack of professionalism... and inhibit it from showing up on some search engines). In all the host doesn't affect it much as long as it's a good site and domain name. Either way- if you PM the link I can look it over for you.

PS:I like 1&1 webhosting if you're looking.
