A general question to you all

Unread post by Meijen Shaggy »

Sorry if my English is not so great, since it's not my first language...

So, here's the thing:

I've never sent a fan-letter before. But there's this actor that I really appreciate, and I want to write him a letter and tell him how talented I think he is.

I found his adress in your site (your EXCELLENT site, I should say!).
But as I was looking around, a question popped in my mind:

Do we know for SURE that the stars actually receive our letters?
The adresses given here are (obviously) not of the stars themselves, but of their agencies/managements.
I read a few feedbacks, and I see that all everyone gets back is just a pre-print of an autographed photo of the star.
So, for all that we know, maybe the agent of the star gets all the fan-mail, automatically sends back photos to all of the fans, and throw all the letters to the garbage.

Can anyone prove me wrong?
Has anyone ever got back an actual REPLY from a star, more than just an autograph?
Is there a point for me to send a letter to my admired actor? Because I want him to READ what I wrote, even to REPLY...

Thanks for your time!
I'd like to hear your opinions! :)

Hey Meijen Shaggy!

I have received a signed photo from Brian Blessed and when he sent me the photo he sent my letter back to me saying how nice a letter it was and how he was glad to be appreciated by his fans! Therefore I know he read my letter as he had written his reply onto it!

Im fairly certain that many celebs read their fanmail although don't have the time to reply to each personally!

Hi Smudge!
Thanks for your kind reply! :)
I assume you're the one who moved my message form "Feedback" to "Autograph Collecting Discussions" -- sorry for the trouble!

I'm glad about your success with Brian Blessed, you're probably right, but I'm still not sure...
The thing is, I'm not sending any photos with the letter, and not requesting any autographs. I just wrote a letter describing my deep admiration...
I don't want an autograph, just a reply (like you got from Brian Blessed)..

My letter is for Ricky Ullman, and I understand that "he" only sends PP's.. So maybe I shouldn't send my letter at all? :?
I'm frustrated...

I think you should send your letter to Ricky Ullman. I dont think that he is the one who takes care of autograph request but he might still read his mail in his spare time. If you already have the letter written to him I would say...give it a shot!!

Hey Meijen Shaggy!

If it is a response that you are looking for when you send your letter why not include that in your letter?

When I send a letter my main goal is to receive a signed photo from that celeb therefore I write politely that "it would be great, if you had the time, to send me a signed photo of yourself!" Why don't you do the same?

Say something like "I am a HUGE fan of yours and was wondering (if you have the time) if you could reply to this letter!"

You never know! It might work! :D

Hope this helps! {up}

Thank you very much!!
I decided to send the letter, since I have nothing to lose, and I really hope I'll get a response... :)

And another question:
Smudge, I can see that you're from England.
Have you sent letters to America? And if you have, did you attach IRC's? Do the stars actually use the IRC's? And how long does it take for a letter that is sent overseas?

Good Luck! :D

I have sent letters to the US before and when I did I sent a letter, a SAE (Self-addressed envelope) and 2 IRC's. I often found that the celeb did use my IRC's although on some occassions they returned my IRC's to me and paid for the postage themselves! :D

I have now stopped writing to the US as it usually took around 2 months to receive anything and it was very rare that I actually did receive something!!!

It was very expensive to write to the US therefore I recently decided to just write inside the UK!

Hope that helps!

Good Luck with your letter! :D

Do you mean that when you send a letter overseas, most chances that I won't get anything back?... :?

Hope this helps,

Nope... But when I used to write overseas I had a success rate of about 10% and those successes took about 2 months to come!

Doesn't mean you shouldn't send overseas though! Good Luck! {up}
