Controversial post deleted. Why??
Hmmm....just wondering why a topic was deleted by the moderators??? I stated on this board that a great percentage of TTM autographs were secretarial or ghost signed and the thread was removed. All I wanted to do was bring some credibility to this site which is full of non-authentic, preprint,ghost signed signatures. This perpetuates fake autographs being exchanged, traded and even sold on the internet. Sites like this need to allow us to tell novice collectors if they're getting the real thing or not. This post will most likely be deleted as soon as read by the moderators and that's sad. If they do allow this post to remain then kudos!!
We need to be able to tell collectors who really signs authentically and who doesn't. It's pathetic that someone posts that they got an autograph back from Madonna and that we can't tell them that it's a preprint or otherwise unless they ask if it's authentic. Then you wonder why 90% of the autographs on Ebay are fake. Let's bring some legitimacy to this site like we have on the sports collectors sites that are always brutally honest about authenticity.
Hey folks......I'm not trying to cause trouble here. It's just my opinion and I think it could make lively discussion before this whole thread is deleted.
Happy Collecting,
Chappy

Re: Controversial post deleted. Why??
I don't see a problem with telling someone that it's not real like a PP or AP, I for one usually look up info to see if the person I'm sending to sends out real ones. Then I decide if I want to bother. It would actually help if people did. But I also think that some people can be rude when telling some that it's not real. I think that's what they don't want people to start doing. I think that there is a thread that is for who send out real, PP, AP etc...
My Autograph Collection, (If you want to ask how I got any graph please feel free to email me)

Re: Controversial post deleted. Why??
I don't know who deleted that post or why they did it.
We do have several threads on the forum that talk about the different types of fakes you can get and of people that send them. For example:
Secretarials
http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 6&t=103047
Autopen
http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 6&t=104121
Preprints
http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 6&t=103049
Feel free to add to the lists when you know of people that belong on there. {thumb2}
There's nothing wrong with discussing certain autographs that we suspect could be anything less than authentic. The only thing we don't really do is when someone posts in the feedback forum to instantly state our opinion about the autographs authenticity; unless the person asks for opinions or if they state it's authentic when it's obvious it's not.

Hi Chappy!
I'm sorry to hear that your post got deleted. :neutral: Admin clearly asked the moderators to not delete topics but to rather lock them (only if it's inappropriate, though), but it seems some still don't listen.
Anyways, as Melinda and guilder1st said, everyone should be free to comment on the authenticy of autographs, but there's some rule that you may not do so in the "Feedback" forum if the original poster did not ask for opinions (it usually just creates one big arguement and ruines that person's success).
However, the moderators can copy that topic into the "Is My Autograph Authentic?" forum so everyone can continue discussion there.
You can post anything about autographs here, be it only your opinion or a known fact - this forum is after all the "Autograph Collecting Discussions" board!
Just as long as it doesn't offend someone in particular here personally, you may post anything autograph related here. {thumb2} It's true that you say that there's many celebrities who send secretarial autographs, you can view the known/believed-to-be list we have put together so far in the link guilder1st gave. Please feel free to post there so we can update the list!
Thanks Chappy & good luck!

To be honest, I have never seen your post. However, as guilder1st said you can feel free to add names of celebs who you suspect sends pp/ stamps/ sec-/ ap to the appropriate lists {thumb2}

Re: Controversial post deleted. Why??
Sounds good, too me
Yep it's true that people get very upset if they find out that their beloved autograph or autographs (whose to say it's not all) are less then real.
In the real world, we are basically let down all the time, and the same is true of collecting autographs, if viewed just as a hobby then no real damage done, but if viewed as a be all and end all then not so healthy. I have found myself, just how many celebs love to hide behind their agency/secs, the proof to me is so many of them if you write via venue, and this includes panto, will never answer you, but then if you write to "them" via agency seem to answer almost everyone, thats the secs work is'ot it!!
:mad: :mad:
my general rule is: I do believe that a lot of either old celebs, are B or C celebs will sign, indeed a lot of them love fanmail, so if you are happy to write to these then you should be in for at least some real ink.
Just dont think, too many A listers will sign.

Chappy, are you sure you posted the topic in question? I checked the moderator logs and there's no record of anyone deleting one of your topics.
Personally, I always encourage people discussing authenticity, whether it leads to disappointment or not. Collectors both experienced and inexperienced deserve to know if they're sitting with a fake or the real deal.
