Swopping autographs across the atlantic.

Unread post by iceman197431 »

Just an idea but with there being some Americans on here as well as us Brits it could work out cheaper if we worked on a system where we got autographs for each other and then sent them in one envolope each month. The Brits could get autographs from British based stars and buddy up with someone in America and then swap wish lists and then say once a month post to your buddy all the autographs you were able to get.
Just an idea as some people struggle getting IRC's and struggle working out postage costs.

Hmm... I'm thinking this is sounding like a pretty good idea... As a general rule, auto collectors aren't stalkers or serial killers or anything, so that really might work. I dunno though, we'll see what admin says. I have a few brits I would like to write to, but I can't figure out those darned IRCs.

Admin, I was just wondering if maybe we could use you as a sort of "halfway point"? When you received all pictures involved, then you could send them off the rest of the way. Do you think this would work? Could you please email me or PM me to let me know what you think of this idea?

Thanks!

Yeah that's a good idea! With the IRC's I send two to US. If it's not enough then... not my fault, I don't know how they work. It's a good idea what does admin think of it?

Me got a different swing on that idea, what about stamps? I mean, ya can go into a Buereau de Change and buy currency of that country, send them to the collector from another country, and do likewise for them. Saves hassle with IRC's!

*gasp* See, THIS is why you're here for us, maz! I can't believe I didn't think of that first... Now the Irish chick's gonna get the credit (J/K!!)

That would be a lot easier... Just take your envelope to the PO, ask them to weigh it and ask how much it would cost to send it to whichever country.
Good idea, mazzy one!

Course it does Lucas, it would be for any country.

You wouldnt even have to bring your envelope to the Post Office, a simple kitchen weighing scales is ok, then compare this to the weights quoted on some of the online mail websites, and request stamps for that amount, or add a few cent/pence whatever on, just to be sure.

Remember, when looking, you would want international postal rates, because you would want the letter to come from their country, to your home country.

A lot of countries have their own online postal calculators :

*Australia*

http://www1.auspost.com.au/pac/int_letter.asp

*America*

http://ircalc.usps.gov/

*UK*
They have both AirMail and Surface Mail rates :

http://www.royalmail.com/portal/rm/jump ... aId=400033

*Canada*

http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/rates/default-e.asp

*Ireland / Eire*
I know from experience that mail from Ireland to say, the UK, costs 50c Surface Mail, 60c Airmail for an average letter, and to the USA, just 60c.

These are all guidelines of course, but it seems a lot handier to get foreign stamps than those IRC's!
