are there any websites that list a public appearance / book signing or anything of the sort schedule, possibly searchable by city? Thanks for your help

I don't think there is something specific that tells you that. You can try Pollstar to concerts and check your local Borders, Barnes and Noble,etc and see if there are any upcoming signings.
