I recently purchased a signed photo off ebay and it is inscribed to a person called Burl. I don't mind having a photo with an inscription as it was cheap and it was an autograph I couldn't find anywhere else at a price I could afford but I was just wondering if anyone here knew any ways I could remove the inscription without damaging the photo.
If this isn't possible I won't worry about the inscription but I just thought I would give it a shot.
Thanks .

Thanks for your response dueby_boys . I once tried the dry erase marker technique on an unwanted holiday photo which I scribbled on with sharpie. It worked quite well but left a smear mark on the photo so I am scared to try it .

I've used watered down nail polish remove with success, but I would try it by writing in marker on a scrap photo of the same type of paper first, just to be sure (I was too chicken just to take it straight to the dedication on the one I wanted to remove. Hahaha).

If the photo is glossy then the inscription can be removed. I have done it a bunch of times with acetone. Its nail polish remover without dyes and lotions in it and can be purchased from CVS or Walgreens. I have heard of people using other methods but acetone will completely take the inscription off without harming the photo.
Heres a comic with glossy cover that I cleaned the inscription off of using acetone. Same idea applies to anything glossy (photo, magazine, card...)

Yeah try it out on the bottom corner or something first to make sure it doest mess it up. Then if something did happen it would be in a spot that could be matted out.

I'm sure you have your problem solved by now, but my 2c worth... if it is for display, scan the picture at high resolution, photoshop out the dedication, print out the touched up picture and frame it. Behind glass it's hard to tell the difference and you'll still have the original in perfect condition stored safely away.
