Sending/ not sending SASE's.

Unread post by kimmylee »

I felt the urge to start this topic after seeing several people saying they don't send SASE's when requesting autographs. I really can't believe this and think it bad manners at the very least.

When writing to a celeb you are asking them for their signature, asking them a favour. So shouldn't it be automatic that you make it as easy as possible (SASE) for them to make this happen for you? It's good manners and anyway I should think it increases your chances of success!

My worry is that some may stop signing TTM after being pestered with such rude requests.

Why should the celeb pay and go through the bother for postage when you are the one asking them for something?

Agree. Celeb shouldn't have to pay to send you something. If they really want to pay, they can simply return the SASE when they send your photo back (I've had some do that). But including a SASE is as polite as saying thank you.

There are a couple of issues involved (actually more than a couple) but the biggest is courtesy - sending a request TTM is imposing on the celebs time and assuming the costs (or at least some of then costs/postage) is the right thing to do. Second, sending your request with a SASE greatly increases your chance of success.
I have been asked many times about trading / selling some of my autographs. I am sorry but my collection is not and will not be for sale.

Agree 100% with all the posts made so far!! If I was a celebrity, I would find it rude if the person requesting my signature expected me to pay the return postage. I think many fans get it on their heads that celebs have tons of money that they don't know what to do with it all, so they figure they won't mind paying the postage. {down}

However I was lucky enough to meet Billie Piper and John Barrowman before and I asked them do they like reciveing Fan mail... They both said yes, and i said does it bother you if people don't send you return postage... And they both said somehting along the lines of, My fan's put a smile on my face every day! I really don't mind going to a bit of effort after reading their kind, kind words!
