Blue/Black on white or lighter backgrounds.
Silver/Gold on dark images backgrounds.
I love the Silver/Gold liquid deco fine pens they blow Sharpies away and look fantastic. I also have a black deco that is nice.
And nothing beats a blue vis a vis pen which are impossible to find now!. The new Retractable Blue Sharpie has a similar blue color to it if anyone wants to try it and it looks better than the regular blue sharpies.
Here are a few samples of the pens i used>
Signed in gold and it really stands out in a frame hanged up>

Signed with a Liquid Gold deco pen>

Signed with Liquid Silver deco pen>

Facsimile signatures are always in black, so I prefer blue. Silver sharpies are only good for a while, and only for people who sign slowly. (They have to be stored tip down or they'll dry out fast.) I've gotten autographs using a silver sharpie from ballplayers who sign rapidly and they came out terrible. Silver or gold paint pens are great for dark surfaces. I will only use a black sharpie if my blue one "dies" and I have no other choice.

As stated by many users, depends on what is getting signed.
I HATE RED , as it looks just horrible and is unreadable
Silver is great on black but needs proper time to dry.
Black likes good if there are a decent amount of light colors in the image.
I really hate when items get signed with a regular ink pen. Some old school wrestlers still sign this way.

I used to get baseball cards signed in blue Sharpie.
Re: What color Sharpie do you like your autographs in.
I use primarily blue sharpies. They don't yellow out with age like signatures in black.

I think blue is my favourite although I quite like black as well. Silver looks pretty but it smudges and rubs off far too easily so I don't like that so much. I seriously dislike red because I was brought up being told it was rude to write in red.
