Ever wondered if your mail was lost or stolen?

And don't even get me started on my stuff being bent...Apparently my mailman thinks that no matter what size the envelope, if it doesn't say "PLEASE DO NOT BEND!" then it's okay to shove it in my small mail box.

My mailman has no idea what the phrase, "Please do not bend" means. Either that or he assumes that rolling it up like a toilet paper roll is not "bending" it. I've got one of those real small apartment mail boxes and he just rolls them up and shoves 'em in. I've stopped putting in cardboard inserts because I've noticed it actually damages them more when he tries rolling them with cardboard inside.

I have had an autograph stolen by a postal worker. I bought a signed book from a retired baseball player. He mailed me the book with delivery confirmation. The padded mailer arrives, but it has been opened, a copy of the postal workers regulations handbook inserted, and retaped. I flipped out. I took it to the post office and demanded to know what was going on. They, of course, were skeptical and thought that maybe I put the book inside. I showed them that it was a postal employee handbook, and I have never worked for the post office.

That got them curious. They took pictures and filed a report. I had a detective for the postal service contact me and they had me send them all the stuff for evidence.

Months later I was informed that a postal worker, in the San Fransisco sorting hub, had been stealing mail. He put an employee handbook inside because the pakage would not be delivered empty since it had delivery confirmation with weight and all. I guess he snagged my book because he recognised the ball players name on the envelope.

The post office informed they did not recover the book, the employee was terminated and facing charges, and I could file a claim. Thankfully the ball player was super cool about it when I wrote him about it and sent me another signed book. (I did get that one)

That was a horrid story! I despise people that do such things. Theft and destruction of property really annoy me!

Ouch..I've almost had a sort-of similar experience. I bought an Edgar Allan Poe book that was printed in the late 1800's, and of course I had tracking and delivery confirmation. I watched that thing like a hawk. Well delivery day came and I sat waiting near the mail box all day (My darn mail man comes anywhere between 1 and 5:30..) Finally he shows up. He drops off a few bills and walks away. I nearly flipped out. I walked inside, seething, was getting ready to call the post office when there was a knock at my door. He said he'd had a bit more mail in his bag than usual and couldn't fit it. I was so happy and relieved lol.

As for the mailing to.... I could only geuss that USPS delivers. As for receiving it back Huh...

On photos and cards I take the chance and I put my name and address as the return and receiving end, that's it.

When I send out larger items like baseballs I'm currently using printed labels with a tracking label, like ebay/paypal style. With a my name on the return and receiving end.

I'm currently waiting on 2 baseballs with tracking number with players that sign fairly quickly .....but still waiting. lost stolen maybe...........

I think about it all the time, I sent out 6 requests to MLB players at last years all star break have received none back writing c/o the team. That is why I dont put the name of team on the request I feel that is as invitation to get your stuff stolen, I use the address but not the team name and my success have gone up except for a few. Just also remember that lots of teams discourage players from signing all together and some do not even forward mail to players either trashing them or sending pre prints
