I guess ill be the voice of reason here...

(How long before you should give up on a home ttm?)
- if a tree falls in the forest and no one hears it...did it really fall? (Or whatever the $%&& the saying is)...you can't answer questions you have no answers to, so why even pose them? You don't know what a persons home situation is...how busy they are or how often they answer their mail, or even if they frequently misplace mail. Just don't dwell on your ttm autograph requests...send them out, forget about them and go on with life and be surprised when you open the mailbox. People that count days and dwell on each and every request, no offense, dwell more on life. Get a seperate hobby or spend some time with the opposite sex. Make this a side hobby and make it fun. Obviously if you really want a guys autograph and its been about a year, go ahead and try the dude again. But getting bent out of shape because a guy didn't send your request back within a month, I'm not down with that. I'm a busy person myself and if I were in a position of getting fan mail and were a fly on the wal and saw the discussion that goes on about it, honestly id stop answering it unless it started coming in crayon from a child. Re--lax.

(Don't you think its creepy sending c/o home? What if they think I'm a stalker?)
-bro, these guys don't care about you or any of us other fans...if you seriously take what these people think about you to heart, then take the prior advice of finding a seperate hobby and a female and multiply it by 100. Unless you know the person, why would you honestly care if you're pissing them off? Bro, do not get a job in public service of any kind. Just my advice.

I got frustrated with people not being able to answer my posts on here, even though I seemed to have every address for players they wanted. I started back up by 'stalking' players addresses utilizing a combination of their card/collegiate information and Facebook. It's tough to track down WLAF players and it feels much more accomplished when you get a response TTM than digging through a Meiselman list or reading through Sportscollectors.net postings, where Joe Blow lectures everybody about "How he's not a child" on every other success.
Totally agree with your post leebo. I'd be happy to help out if I can, just PM me and I'll help you as much I can do dig up what you need. It does make the success a little sweeter when you dig up the address on your own, I can relate with that.

I'm all for just throwing stuff out there and helping out whoever I can. Certainly not dwelling on anything, but if someone wants to do that then they're more than welcome. This is a hobby for me too, and I don't take it very seriously. One thing to always remember, this is supposed to be fun.

All I can say to you guys who are new to autograph collecting TTM and otherwise is to practice a certain amount of patience and moderate your expectations. You will get a lot of TTM RTS and what so have it. I usually send care of the team addresses to current players, and to home addresses for retired players. It's a bit awkward right now and because of the lockout, some players are more apt to sign than usual because they feel the plight of the fans, while others are waiting until the lockout ends to sign anything.

The other thing is some players like Bruce Smith for example, only signs c/o the NFL HoF. He will sign virtually anything within reason, but will RTS if you send it directly to his home. Christian Okoye will RTS if you send it to his foundation, even though he is operating it himself. It's that sort of give and take so you have to be patient with. Always remember- don't send out anything you are not willing to risk losing.

If you really want an autograph to come in regularly, send a bulk group of 5-10 names out at the beginning of the month, then follow it up with an occasional 2-3 every other week. With any luck this strategy will help establish a stream of regular autographs coming in.

Try aiming for the bottom. Sometimes you hit the top. For example, the Bills are typically a very good organization to go TTM with. Here are some names on the roster: CJ Spiller, Shawne Merriman, Lee Evans, and Donte Whitner. While some of these aren't the most sexy names or haven't proven themselves, half the fun is 'drafting' your own prospects.

Give incentive for the player to sign your cards. Sometimes a letter frankly won't do it. I know some people put in 10 bucks. I don't do that. I usually double down and put an extra card or two in there or have a piece of fan art for them. The unsaid courtesy in the game of autograph collecting is to limit your requests to 2-3 items maximum, but some guys will sign more gladly because you remember them. (Stan Gelbaugh signed 8 for me.) Remember, in essence you are wasting their time for your pursuit!

Hope that helps!

Otherwise, I got in contact with and sent out for former WLAFer London Monarch WR Jon Horton through Facebook! This will be my longest distance request ever. A round trip for my cards of over 11,000 miles, since he lives in the Netherlands now!

Pretty sure I saw some successes from Moreno last year c/o Broncos. Let me know how you do with Orakpo, I sent to him c/o home and haven't heard anything for a couple months. Good luck on the rest.

Here let me help you out. Save yourself some trouble and get the free membership to sportscollectors.net. If you feel like paying 14.99 a year or whatever for the full thing go for it, but if you want to amp up your understanding of who replies and get a few addresses while you are at it, - the free membership will do just that. It's stupidly helpful and will supplement what you see going through here.

I'll chime in and add that it also gives you the ability to organize your own successes/failures and help you keep track of who you've already sent to (that is, if you add your success/failure.) I've been using the free membership for a while now, and leebo is right it's great for giving you an idea of who signs and sometimes good for an address or two.
