Re: NFL TTM Thread

Just found out some of my mail is STILL getting returned. Not sure what I can really do about it, but this certainly effects my TTM returns. I'm also not sure I feel comfortable sending anything else out, for fear that no matter what I won't get it back. Looks like I may have to physically go down to the post office and figure it out. Not happy about this.
Some favorites from my collection, so far, are...

Favorite IP Autographs: Chris Cooley, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Faith Hill, John Riggins, Bruce Smith

Favorite TTM Autographs: Stephen Davis, Jim Lachey, Peyton Manning, Mark McGwire, Chris Samuels

Favorite Sports Teams: Washington Redskins, Boston Celtics, Boston Red Sox

Those were my first autographs. My favorite autograph is from Steve Young that I got a couple years ago at this address:

Cedarwood Arabian Farms

I don't want to rain on your parade, but there's a chance that your Steve Young is an autopen. He's been doing that for a while. I got my probable autopens through his Forever Young Foundation last year myself.

Here's today's related freebee:
Steve Bono
1100 Hamilton Ave.
Palo Alto, CA 93401

Congrats on that Ernest Givins autograph! I asked him after he autographed some cards for me to do his Electric Slide, but he told me, "Nah, It'd ruin the tradition." Cool guy though. Wish his career didn't fizzle out there like it did at the end.

I honestly couldn't be sure, even after viewing your better photo. It would take a really trained eye to know, but I just wanted you to be aware that he has been doing detectable autopenning mercilessly on his rookie card to the chagrin of some collectors, in the recent past. I wouldn't know if this is his current home address as it is a few years old.

When I got him through the foundation, it most certainly wasnt autopen, it was in bold sharpie and there are enough subtle differences in the 2 signatures that they couldn't be copied. That was back in 05 though, and at that time the foundation kept a log of who he had signed for. He would sign one request for each person, and that was all. If you tried again, you got a rejection letter stating he is a busy guy and had already signed once for you. Since then I've seen his successes go way down. I think he's tired of the whole autograph deal now. I've seen him in person twice, once at the HOF and once at the NFL Draft and neither time was he willing to sign anything. I got a picture with him but that was all he was willing to do before hustling away.

He signed 2 cards for me as well last year via the foundation for a donation. I was aware of the 'autopen' rumors before I sent though. I guess what I am saying is just: buyer beware. I don't mean to scare you. If you think it's authentic when you compare it to other SY autos, why shouldn't it be? Enjoy your success!

That goes along with the entire TTM hobby. No one knows whether the stuff is authentic other than the signer themselves. I'm sure there are a lot of autographs in people's collections assumed to be authentic that are in autopen. What you don't know can't hurt you. This is what I hate about the "ghost signer" rumors involving Montana and Bradshaw. Unless you can validate to me that there is a ghost signer for these people, its just the equivalent of Star Magazine to me, and I don't read that shit. In the meantime, I took it upon myself to intimately inquire with Joe's son Nate not whether "there's a ghost signer" or not, but rather "Nate, should I believe my autographs to be real having gotten them from the address I listed?" His answer: "absolutely..I know he answers his mail himself." Now prove something to me more powerful than that and I might be a believer.

In short, I take this on fully expecting every ttm autograph to be real. I don't sweat the same stuff most people do..autopens, ghost signers, how many days/weeks its taken...who cares? Why sweat the small stuff. All your gonna do is make yourself paranoid over freebie autographs and make yourself crazy counting the days between returns.

Cool stuff, and nice successes. You can also see the autograph (my Steve Young) through the white backside. Oh, and I sent cards to both Roger Staubach and Harry Carson on 7/6, I'm not sure about getting Staubach's. I've seen some successes and failures from him, but the site that I got his home address from got a success. Also, I sent the Harry Carson card to his fanmail address and they allow one autograph per person, and cards are free to get autographed so I'm fairly certain I'll get that back signed :knock on wood:. You guys ever get a Roger Staubach or Harry Carson autograph?

Gotten them both back, but a long time ago. The earlier you get a HOFer, the better. Their signing rituals change all the time as they get sick of signing or decide to charge...I got those 2 done about 7 years ago.
