I luckily got Staubach in person many years ago.

(One of the rules I play by is to take the cards of 'team greats' to training camp with me when I go, because you never know who will show up.)

I haven't seen much success through boards on Staubach in a while, but frankly don't let that stop you from trying.

Enjoy the process, and remember: you risk losing anything you put in that envelope.

Yeah, I hope I don't lose anything ttm but I've asked around and it seems pretty rare to get things lost ttm. Either they sign it, you get a RTS, or they send it back unsigned if you use a SASE and if I heard correctly.

I live in Los Angeles- mail gets 'lost' all the time. Last year so far I have 48 write-offs. What that means is I sent something out and waited a year and got no response at all. Now I'd still love to get those back, but since I haven't gotten any response or my cards back, everyday that passes I feel safer to assume it's not coming back. (I'm sure Warren Sapp and Haywood Jeffires have my TTM autograph requests at a bottom of a giant, black garbage bag full of similar requests.)

And I totally agree with Luigi- go for recent HoFers now, not later- while they are generous. Rickey Jackson, Warren Moon, Bruce Smith... (not Emmitt Smith.) Also guys who have more concerted HoF efforts behind them to get them in, such as Andre Reed and Charlie Hennigan. (Poor Charlie, you'll never get in. ) They want the PR and they want your support.

Yeah, I've been trying to collect mainly hall of famers, I'll start sending to the more new hall of famers. I'm also thinking of sending a basketball card, and possibly a Seattle Supersonics hat to Lenny Wilkins (NBA HOF) to get signed. I hear that he is a pretty generous signer.

Luigi Fioravanti wrote:That goes along with the entire TTM hobby. No one knows whether the stuff is authentic other than the signer themselves. I'm sure there are a lot of autographs in people's collections assumed to be authentic that are in autopen. What you don't know can't hurt you. This is what I hate about the "ghost signer" rumors involving Montana and Bradshaw. Unless you can validate to me that there is a ghost signer for these people, its just the equivalent of Star Magazine to me, and I don't read that ****. In the meantime, I took it upon myself to intimately inquire with Joe's son Nate not whether "there's a ghost signer" or not, but rather "Nate, should I believe my autographs to be real having gotten them from the address I listed?" His answer: "absolutely..I know he answers his mail himself." Now prove something to me more powerful than that and I might be a believer.

In short, I take this on fully expecting every ttm autograph to be real. I don't sweat the same stuff most people do..autopens, ghost signers, how many days/weeks its taken...who cares? Why sweat the small stuff. All your gonna do is make yourself paranoid over freebie autographs and make yourself crazy counting the days between returns.
This is the same attitude I go into the hobby with. I am not going to stress over authenticity of a freebie autograph. This is something I do for fun, not for profit. It's best just to relax and have fun with it.

leebo - don't get me started on lost mail. Still dealing with my postal issues, as more of my bills have gotten RTS again. I am upset about the potential autographs lost too, but I kind of NEED my bills that I can't get e-bills for. Gonna try to catch my carrier today and ask him what's up.
Some favorites from my collection, so far, are...

Favorite IP Autographs: Chris Cooley, Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Faith Hill, John Riggins, Bruce Smith

Favorite TTM Autographs: Stephen Davis, Jim Lachey, Peyton Manning, Mark McGwire, Chris Samuels

Question for everyone:

What is the coolest football signature you have in your collection (not the person whos signature it is, just the look of the signature)?

For me it's probably:
ttm: Tony Dungy
other: Joe Mcknight
"You miss 100% of the shots you don't take." - Wayne Gretzky

Check out my site: http://myttmmailday.blogspot.com/

I post all of my TTM successes and pictures on there.

***Want to help the less fortunate? Now you can, for every time that you click an ad on my website, all of the money made will be donated to charity. It takes virtually no time at all to help. If you go to my site and want to help out, just click a few ads and help the less fortunate. My goal is to raise $100 by for people that are less fortunate than us. Thanks a ton!!!***

Also, I still haven't decided which charity I'm going to donate to. I was looking at heifer, but heard some negative things. Please let me know if you have any ideas. Thanks for all of your help.

Idk where the idea came that mail doesn't get lost but I can assure you that if you try enough people to have any kind of regular success, you're losing more mail than you're getting back. For all the successes I've had, and its well over 1,000 over the past 7 years, id guess I have easily have "lost" just as many. Meaning, they never came back. Never saw them again. And true to my rants in the past, the majority of those came from deadbeat teams/schools, and addys from obscure "geocities" websites.

Coolest sig TTM has to be Gus Frerotte, former Redskins QB. He signed my jersey, sweet sig right down the 1. As far as IP success, it's a toss-up between Chris Cooley and former Celtics great Dennis Johnson (RIP).

Speaking of Gus, here ya go:

Gus Frerotte
10040 Litzsinger Rd.
Saint Louis, MO 63124

Be patient, it can take him a while to return it. My success from him took almost 3 months.

Honestly, 3 months shouldn't be considered a long TTM wait. Its a normal wait. People are just too damn impatient. They want their free autographs, and they want them NOW! Someone send Gus a memo to speed things up a bit lol
