2010 will have to be the year of my first Playbill - didn't receive anything back from Steady Rain. I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of productions are coming up and who's going to be starring in them

I really wanted A Steady Rain. I sent mine out on November 2, 2009. I was so angry when I saw that the Stage Manager stopped replying to requests. He/She stopped around November 8, 2009. I always wanted Hugh Jackman's autograph and I loved the cover of that playbill. I wish my letter was returned to me though, because I put two forever stamps on my SASE, which I could have res used.

Sorry to hear you didn't get anything back either. I think I sent mine a bit earlier - seems it didn't make a difference.

The reason they stopped sending them out for "free" is because during the fall leading up to Christmas is Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS fundraising. A Steady Rain with Jackman and Craig rasied a baffling $1.5 MILLION. Usually shows raise from $50000 to $250000..MAYBE. They made over $30,000 a night! I've said it before, if you want to nearly make it certain that you will get a reply during the fall months (you can easily look up when they are collecting), than make a donation to BC/EFA. Even $5. They probably sold each playbill for $20 is my guess!

To be fair (because I just checked) I did send my request a good deal of time before the fundraising period began. I just wonder why I didn't hear back when there were other successes.

Fundraising started like September 22? I don't know how many other successes there were, but perhaps they sent a playbill, or most likely Hugh & Daniel signed idk 25 playbills and then the stage manager stopped hwen they realized they were going to sell them...

Has anyone ever sent a request to the place where the cast rehearses or is that weird? I'm not even sure if the place would know who to pass the mail on too.

Yes - that is WEIRD. Do NOT do that. This gets asked a lot, and it is rather creepy TBH. It's a waste of postage if you do it. Actors are not stationed in the rehersal spaces and are there for only a couple of hours. Whereas at the theatre, they have a dressing room, an accessible mailing address/etc. I once sent to York Theatre's Rehersal Space and received nothing back - they do not pass on fanmail for simple reasons such as the actors aren't generally there enough, nor visit the front offices to claim the mail. It will most likely be tossed.

I'm new to sending playbills, could anyone please tell me how to address the envelope? Do I address it to the actor or to the stage manager?

If your requesting just a cast-signed playbill, you'll need to address the envelope like:

'Name of play'
ATTN: Stage Manager
(Theatre Address)
