You figured out my plan B, shadow.

What's really funny is that I also got two returns today...and one of them was Anthony Armstrong on a 4x6! He wrote "To *****, HTTR!" and his signature with #13 next to it. The second return was a Steve Tasker card. I was really happy with that one as well. I've had a really awesome week. Since Saturday, I've gotten 5 returns! I got Chris Hanburger, Terry Pendleton (MLB), Chris Leben (UFC), and now Armstrong and Tasker.

Wow you have had a heck of a week, congrats!

Armstrong wrote "HTTR!" on mine too, which I forgot to mention before. He's the first TC request I sent out and my most wanted. One of my favorites on the team for sure!

I sent to Peyton like 3 months ago, I'm starting to wonder if I'm ever gonna get it back. Most of the time he's pretty quick, or at least sends out a pp. I'm not complaining at all because I know the risk involved sending anything out. But this is like some Scully and Mulder type stuff. I'm on a huge drought, but haven't been sending much out either. I think I'm going to wait a while to send to players c/o nfl teams because they're probably getting slammed with mail, and it's probably the last thing on their mind right now. Or I could be wrong. I dunno I just hope my plan works.

I think it's just kind of a crap shoot really. I'm not sending out a lot of requests right now, but I've already had one success during TC. Some guys need TC more than others, like guys learning a new system or have a new coach. I say, if you want, send out a couple requests and see what happens.

Shh... this is going to be a good year going through training camp. Most surprising successes I've had was hitting up a player who just changed teams. Donovan McNabb right now is signing all sorts of stuff through c/o the Vikings. I'm going to hit a couple of those team changers up soon. :)

Yeah, a few of us are TC veterans and can spot you some thoughts. I think we can chime in with what we're thinking.

Get there early and scope out the location. Figure out fence lines where fans with pens and cards are already gathering. Start talking to them and establish where players come through at the highest traffic and get on the front of that fence line. Stake it out through practice if you really need to.

Establish and understand camp protocols. A lot of teams allow their players to only sign for kids 12 and under or have stupid rules like that during training camp. The Vikings for example have a tent and have the players come over and sign in the tent for the fans later. The Cowboys just had a metal fence and called it autograph alley. There's a photo of me in the Dallas Morning News from 15 years ago being crushed against a fence.

Are you after quality or anybody? What's your fancy? Have all materials prepared (cards, ball, poster, whatever) and get a player listing (usually by #) on the web or at a merchandise tent. Know your player's nicknames- even better if it's a college nick and if you call them over, have their card/item out with the pen. Make sure the item can absorb ink! Use a blue sharpie, because black ones dry out if exposed too long. As a common courtesy if you are trying to get merchandise signed, limit your request to one item, unless you are paying or the only one asking.

Don't be disappointed if you are unable to get Peyton Hillis your first day. If you really wan to get him, you will pull out all stops to do so, or you will go multiple times to training camp. Do something that distinguishes you from the crowd to get his autograph. I remember to get James Lofton, I held up a sign that said "WILL WORK FOR JAMES LOFTON'S AUTOGRAPH". All the players laughed and made him come over to sign a couple of cards.

Now this is a bit unscrupulous and I used to see people do this but if you appear handicapped, they usually make certain exceptions for them and their caretaker, but you have to be a jerk to do that.

Now go get me some Browns' autographs!

Mailman is delivering earlier and delivering more stuff for me recently. Coincidence? Probably not. Just a good spate of luck.
2fer today:
Reggie McKenzie, former Raiders/ Machine LB who works in the front office of the Packers signed 1 card in 11 days.
Blair Thomas, former Penn St back and Jet signed 2 cards in a bit over 100 days.
