Finding VV Addresses

Hey everyone,

I am starting this thread because I need your help.

I am aware that it is some of the moderator's jobs to find Via Venue addresses, but because there are so many requests in the forum, they simply can't respond to all of them.

I've been searching for at least 4 addresses, but the problem with that is: I don't know where to look.

So I was wondering if maybe the moderators who look for the addresses could write up some kind of guide as to where we should look and what we should do to find them. (Which would make their job easier as well, seeing as lots of people could find their own addresses!)

I am writing this because my most wanted was recently filming a TV Movie, and I posted a request for the address in the request section, but no one got back to me, even though a couple weeks later (when filming was finished) there was a success from that movie set. This obviously means that just because people don't get back to you in the request threads, the addresses can't be found, because someone found it for this film, I'm just not sure how.

Anyway, I hope you'll be able to help me.

Thanks. :)
Josh

Well, I can try to help out a bit here, since I send most of my requests VV.

What I do:
Music/Concert Events:
Step 1: Search the Group/Band/Singer in Google.
Step 2: Find the official website and check there for tour dates.
Step 3: Open another tab (I use Firefox, but you can open a new window) and Google the arenas the Concert is playing.
Step 4: Using another tab, I check the list here http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 25&t=24711 to see if the venue passes on fanmail.
Step 5: If the venue is not on that list as either passing on fanmail or not, I open another tab and Google the venue.
Step 6: Find a contact information on the website of the venue, either a contact form or a phone number. Then I either use the contact form or the phone number and call to ask if they would be willing to pass fanmail onto the Group/Singer's manager.
Step 7: If the venue gets back to me (if I use the contact form, or by phone) I post the Yes or No in the thread I already gave you above.
Step 8: I mail to the venue and keep my fingers crossed I get a response.

You should also check here: http://www.fanmail.biz/mboard/viewtopic ... 25&t=42901 this will tell you if the person you're looking for is likely to sign VV. It's not an all inclusive list, but it's pretty good. And if the person you'd like isn't on there, you can try, but be prepared not to receive anything back. I always find that preparing myself for the worst makes my successes that much better.

I do the same thing for the Actors and Actresses at different venues, but I mostly send to plays or national tours.

For movie sets:
You can use IMDB Pro, but you have to pay for it. Personally, I don't have it.
What I did was spent hours looking through all the old postings of movie sets that people wrote to (in current and upcoming productions) and in the Add/Request a VV address, and then I used the search toolbar here to see if anyone wrote to actors/actresses VV and got a response. Then I created a spreadsheet in Excel (or something similar, I use Open Office, but I suspect most people use Excel) with the name of the production company or location and next to it added the address and a yes or no. It is really time consuming, but worth it. My list isn't all inclusive, because I only picked the venues that had actors/actresses I like, so it's shorter than it probably really is.

My other suggestion is to use IMDB to find out the name of the production company, and then google that company. See if there's a contact information page or number, and call and find out.

Hope that helps.

For UK tour dates for singers, bands, comedians etc, use Ents 24.

Thanks for the help to you both. :)

Selise, I usually do all that you said, yet I still can't manage to find all the addresses I need. Oh well. Thanks a lot anyway! :)
